100+ Met Gala Looks That Famously Made Headlines

There is quite possibly no bigger (or more extravagant) fashion event than the Met Gala. Each year, the best and brightest of the industry come together to celebrate the museum's new exhibit (it's even referred to as the Oscars of the East Coast), and celebrities, models, and designers bring their sartorial A games to the corresponding red carpet.

This year's official theme is "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," a tribute to the prolific designer who passed away in 2019, and harnessed many muses for Chanel, Fendi, Balmain, Chloé, and Patou. The exhibit itself will feature 150 different looks, alongside original sketches from Lagerfeld's archives. Co-chairs include Dua Lipa, Michaela Coel, Penélope Cruz, Roger Federer, and Anna Wintour, and we expect to see plenty of re-interpretations of Lagerfeld's own wardrobe, as well as homages to Chanel's signature DNA with lots of tweed, pastels, and quality tailoring in abundance.

While we wait to see what some of our favorite stars will choose for this year's gala on Monday, May 1, we'll be experiencing the excitement vicariously through a look back at the most memorable Met Gala looks through the years, from the controversy-stirring (we're looking at you, Kim Kardashian) to the headline-making for the pure extravagance alone.

From Kate Moss's metallic Marc Jacobs dress to Sarah Jessica Parker's tartan Alexander McQueen getup and Beyoncé's feathered Givenchy gown, scroll through to see the best Met Gala looks from parties past, then reminisce about the late-night after party outfits from 2022.

The Boob-Window Trend Is All Over the Red Carpet From Sydney Sweeney to Chlöe

The boob window is the new trend in celebrity dressing making waves this year, both on and off the red carpet. As early as January, in fact, Lori Harvey stepped out to celebrate her 26th birthday in the LBD version of the look, flaunting an asymmetrical midi from The Attico with a chest cutout that circled her cleavage, and was further amplified by an attention-grabbing neck-tie sash. The outfits that follow often resemble halter silhouettes, although not all of these numbers boast a strap on each side. Sydney Sweeney is the latest style icon to give it a go, opting for a brown silk gown that she wore alongside model Izabel Goulart while vacationing in Ibiza. For a night out, the 25-year-old " Euphoria " star rocked her one-shoulder design with gold jewelry, dewy makeup, and her bright blonde hair in loose waves. The bodice of her dress was secured near her collar bone, where fabric from one side was pulled through a loop at the other, wrapping around to the back. The r...

Candice Huffine: "Size Does Not Equal Health, and Weight Does Not Equal Worth"

Image Source: Luvlette Born in Washington DC and raised in a Maryland suburb, Candice Huffine did a little bit of everything when she was growing up, from being captain of the cheerleading squad to taking her turn as a pageant queen. "It was 'typical' in a Hallmark movie kind of way, I guess," Huffine tells POPSUGAR. "These details are important to mention because they did influence my life path. I willingly put myself on a stage at every turn - and not always kind ones - to do the things I loved or to follow a dream I had." Huffine, 39, signed her first modeling contract in 2000. She was "determined" to be a model, despite the fashion industry being notoriously discriminatory toward plus-size people. Knowing the odds were stacked against her propelled Huffine even further toward realizing her dream. "When I received a contract as a plus-size model, it unlocked a new mission in me: to not pursue modeling just for myself, but to push har...
