Regina King's Met Gala Looks Have Nailed the Theme Every Time

Regina King made her Met Gala debut in 2019, and her looks have been among the most memorable in the event's history. There's a reason she's been coined a red carpet legend - just look at her ethereal appearance at last year's Oscars ceremony in Louis Vuitton. Or, revisit her regal moment at the 2021 Costume Designers Guild Awards in a vibrant orange Christopher John Rogers gown. No matter which red carpet moment you study, you'll understand why fashion-lovers look forward to seeing her at every major award show. King delivers a certain style gravitas to the red carpet, so naturally, she's set a new standard in the two years that she's attended fashion's biggest night.

This year will of course be no different, as King is expected to join Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Lin-Manuel Miranda as a Met Gala cochair. Set for May 2 (traditionally the event takes place on the first Monday in May), the theme is "Gilded Glamour," presenting an invitation for the star-studded crowd to capture the zeitgeist of the Gilded Age of the late 19th century in their looks. The theme has been hotly debated on Twitter, with many expressing their frustration at the industry's attempt to glorify a time of rampant inequality. We wouldn't be surprised if King elevated the theme in a meaningful way. She's previously leveraged these high-profile events to send a social message. At the 2020 Emmy Awards, she changed from a Schiaparelli gown into a T-shirt imprinted with Breonna Taylor's face styled underneath a pink Schiaparelli suit - reminding everyone that "the cops still haven't been held accountable."

King dresses with intention, expressing her point of view while experimenting with fashion-forward silhouettes. As we wait to find out how she interprets this year's theme, let's appreciate her previous Met Gala looks.

The Boob-Window Trend Is All Over the Red Carpet From Sydney Sweeney to Chlöe

The boob window is the new trend in celebrity dressing making waves this year, both on and off the red carpet. As early as January, in fact, Lori Harvey stepped out to celebrate her 26th birthday in the LBD version of the look, flaunting an asymmetrical midi from The Attico with a chest cutout that circled her cleavage, and was further amplified by an attention-grabbing neck-tie sash. The outfits that follow often resemble halter silhouettes, although not all of these numbers boast a strap on each side. Sydney Sweeney is the latest style icon to give it a go, opting for a brown silk gown that she wore alongside model Izabel Goulart while vacationing in Ibiza. For a night out, the 25-year-old " Euphoria " star rocked her one-shoulder design with gold jewelry, dewy makeup, and her bright blonde hair in loose waves. The bodice of her dress was secured near her collar bone, where fabric from one side was pulled through a loop at the other, wrapping around to the back. The r...

Candice Huffine: "Size Does Not Equal Health, and Weight Does Not Equal Worth"

Image Source: Luvlette Born in Washington DC and raised in a Maryland suburb, Candice Huffine did a little bit of everything when she was growing up, from being captain of the cheerleading squad to taking her turn as a pageant queen. "It was 'typical' in a Hallmark movie kind of way, I guess," Huffine tells POPSUGAR. "These details are important to mention because they did influence my life path. I willingly put myself on a stage at every turn - and not always kind ones - to do the things I loved or to follow a dream I had." Huffine, 39, signed her first modeling contract in 2000. She was "determined" to be a model, despite the fashion industry being notoriously discriminatory toward plus-size people. Knowing the odds were stacked against her propelled Huffine even further toward realizing her dream. "When I received a contract as a plus-size model, it unlocked a new mission in me: to not pursue modeling just for myself, but to push har...
